This course will engage with hands-on SL (community-based learning) pedagogy for anti-racism, inclusion, diversity, xenophobia, migrants, interculturalism, IPAs.

In particular this course will explore teaching tools like community-based learning for connecting students with organisations that champion migrants, international protection applicants and universities and cities of Sanctuary programmes. Community-based learning (CBL) or Service Learning (SL) modules are a pedagogical opportunity for students to learn alongside community organizations and add value through reciprocal projects.

This short course will take place online for four lunchtimes with facilitators Dr Lorraine Tansey and Dr Maria Gallo (University of Galway) in May – 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th – from 1:15 to 2 pm.

It will be organised in the following way:

  • Week 1 May 9th: Migrants, IPAs, Anti-Racism, Inclusion, Diversity
  • Week 2 May 16th: Service Learning (SL)/Community-Based Learning CBL pedagogy
  • Week 3 May 23rd: SL/CBL and the SDGs, University of Sanctuary & partnerships
  • Week 4 May 30th: Designing your Service Learning /CBL module
